What is the Counselor Technician program?
What is the CDC 1 program?
Our Counselor Technician coursework covers the educational requirement needed to apply for ACBHC's Counselor Tech certification. No practicum is required at this level. Counselor Technicians are entry-level professionals and work under the supervision of other substance use professionals providing direct support (through case management and some counseling) to clients in both individual and group settings. The CT Coursework and program is intended for those who are just starting out in the Behavioral Health field and want to subsequently expand their skills with the CDC 1 program.
Our CDC1 program builds on what was learned in the Counselor Tech Program, teaching more advanced counseling skills and foundational information. Your CT and CDC 1 coursework, plus your practicum hours and references are all needed to apply for your CDC1 through the Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification (ACBHC). In some cases, individuals with degrees in Social Work, Psychology, etc. are able to take fewer classes to meet the requirements.
Anyone interested in CT, CDC1 or CDC2 coursework and certifications should utilize the ACBHC's website for the most accurate information. You can find their website here: http://akcertification.org/
