Exciting news!
Waypoint (and our other company Family Therapy & Recovery) have been doing trainings in Alaska for a decade, mainly through RADACT at their quarterly Academies as well as training directly at behavioral health agencies throughout Alaska. RADACT has closed now, after decades of involvement in training Alaska's Counselor Technicians and CDC 1 Staff. In spring of 2025, Alaska's Department of Health announced that the funding for running the academies was available again and Waypoint was fortunate enough to be selected as the recipient of this funding.
From now through mid-2027, we will be holding 8 Clinical Intensive Programs. These have the same end result as RADACT's academies; all CT coursework can be completed, as well as all CDC 1 coursework. Our first two Clinical Intensives are already planned, one for November 2025 and one in January 2026. Subsequent Clinical Intensives will take place in May and June of 2026, and so on. You will see some familiar faces at the trainings. Our CEO and principal trainer Paul Hunziker will continue to train as well as two other trainers that are already familiar to the Alaska Behavioral Health community. We will be joined by one new trainer: Troy Montserrat-Gonzales, MA, LPC. We are also happy to announce that Janet Carter from RADACT has joined our team and will be conducting some of the trainings as well!
One key difference between the previous academies and the Clinical Intensives is the format. Originally all of the training occurred in-person. The new format will allow for one week of in-person training with the remaining days of occurring online via Zoom. This will allow for participants to spend less time away from home and will help reduce absences due to poor weather and delayed flights. Participants will also have the option of attending completely over Zoom.
Another change from the previous Academies is location. For our first two Academies we will be utilizing The Megan Room as our conference space. The Megan Room is located in Anchorage and is a state-of-the-art conference facility. Our goal is to be able to host the Academy in different cities, so stay tuned for future location announcements!
As with the other Academies, sponsorships are available for participants. These are essentially scholarships that cover tuition, food (for in-person days), travel and lodging for participants. There are 5 sponsorship slots available per academy. Those wishing to be considered for the sponsorships should apply as early as possible.
